Graphic Tutorial #1
requested by hayffie yay

  • I use Photoshop cs5 but any version will work
  • Please like or reblog this if you found it useful :)

So first what you want to do is open up a canvas with these dimensions: Width: 500px  and Height: 175px. Then get your screen cap or picture and cut out the person. I use the Polygon Lasso tool but you can use whatever you like. It should look something like this:

image

Make sure you’ve turned the background into a layer, then clear the background. Crop it and resize it, I made it about 190px wide. Drag it onto the canvas you made earlier and position it to your liking. Then, grab a texture, (I used texture #1 from this pack but any cloudy sort of texture will work :) ) and drag it onto your canvas. Put your person under your cloudy texture, then set your cloudy texture to (Layer Blending Mode) Darken. It should look like this now:

Then, make a new layer and get a brush and make it around 100px wide and set the hardness to 0%. Make sure your brush is white because the Darken layer blending mode makes the layer replace white or light colours. Also make sure to brush some distance away from your person becayse the brush is big. Also create another layer and brush some over your person and set the opacity to around 10%. Then get texture #42 of this pack and change the hue to whatever colour you want. I want it blue so made it about -150 and put the saturation down a bit. Then flatten image. Drag it onto your canvas, over everything and set it to Multiply, adjust the opacity to whatever looks good to you, I set it to 85%.

On that layer erase over the face and body and do the same with your cloudy texture, mine now looks like this:

image

It’s looking very dull, so get PSD 02 from this pack and put it over top everything and set the opacity to around 25% but it might be different for different pictures so set yours to what looks good with it. After that, put a black and white Gradient Map over your person only (under the layers that you but white on too) and set the opacity to 35%, also add a Brightness/Contrast layer and add some contrast over everything (according to your image) but put it under your psd. I added 55. Now I have this:

image

Now, click on your layer that has your person on it and go to Filter > Sharpen > Smart Sharpen, and make the amount is 500% and the Radius: 0.2 and click OK. After that, go back to Filter and this time instead click Noise > Add Noise. Make the amount around 4%. Then do the same with your colour texture and make the amount about 2.5%. That was all the graphic stuff, now it should look like:

image

Now for the text. Create a new layer and get the Rectangular Maquee Tool and make a box of the size you want it to be. Then paint it white and deselect. Now, type your text over your box where you want it to go. Get the Magic Wand tool and one by one select the letters and then switch layers to your box and hit delete. (It’s annoying I know but it’s the only way to do it haha)

And the product is:

image

It’s pixely cause I’ve zoomed in but it looks fine it’s normal size :) Then if you want to make any finishing touches do so (I added a gradient map and put it on a low opacity over everything) and then flatten the image and save and voliá! Done! Easy right? This is my final product:

I hope I wasn’t too confusing! If you have any questions feel free to ask me :)
